Canada’s Times Colonist Reviews 2.0T Genesis Coupe

Pedro Arrais of the Times Colonist recently shared his experience with his seat time in the 2.0T Genesis Coupe. He agrees it is certainly a nice RWD sporty coupe, and a long way for Hyundai to have come from it’s humble subcompact roots. However, he incorrectly claims that the Genesis Coupe is the replacement for the Tiburon. We know better, don’t we, as Hyundai has already said that their replacement for the Tiburon is coming, in a revised and smaller FWD chassis. Also of note is the reverse position of the gearbox – up and to the left. While not difficult to use, it is too close for comfort for many to 1st gear. No worries though, the car emits a sharp beep when you stick it in reverse, so you don’t mistake it for first gear. Audi and VW does the same thing, but to put it into reverse requires a push over and “down” to select that cog, preventing mishaps in the parking lot.

Hyundai is running hot these days. Even as the auto market struggles, this Korean car manufacturer is bucking the trend by going from strength to strength with new models. The latest to hit our shores is the new 2010 Genesis Coupe. It fills the spot vacated by the company’s recently discontinued Tiburon.
