SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association), hosted this year from November 3rd to November 6th, is slated to have a strong injection of Genesis Coupe straight from Hyundai and Rhys Millen Racing (RMR).

Taking the already potent Genesis Coupe a step further, they have developed a new RM460 Genesis Coupe, with a mid-mounted 4.6L Tau V8 powerplant. With over 500hp contained in the Genesis Coupe, RMR is hoping for a killer combination both on the track and on the street!

The Tau V8 engine replaces the original back seat and maintains most of its original architecture with upgrades to eight individual throttle bodies and a set of JE pistons that bumps the compression ratio to 11.0:1. An engine management system by AEM has been added to speak to the factory Engine Control Unit (ECU) while maintaining all factory dash and gauge cluster functions. A Mendeola five-speed sequential transmission has been mounted to the V8 and tuned for a maximum speed of 182 mph. Suspension will be maintained by the original MacPherson strut dual-link front suspension and a five-link rear suspension setup, and upgraded with a KW coilover component.

With Hyundai’s hot new offering, the Genesis Coupe, it’s not wonder that they’ve made it into the “Top 10 Tax Refund Cars” list published by Kelly Blue Book. Though the press release was published by Hyundai USA, I couldn’t find the list on KBB.

Kelley Blue Book’s www.kbb.com named the 2010 Genesis Coupe to its “Top 10 Tax Refund Cars” list, which recognizes the hottest new coupes and convertibles. The Genesis Coupe was named alongside the 2010 Audi S5 Cabrio, 2009 BMW Z4, 2010 Ford Shelby GT500, 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible, 2010 Nissan 370Z Roadster, 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS, 2010 Lexus IS Convertible and 2009 Porsche Cayman.

The internet is abuzz with information about the Genesis Coupe that Rhys Millen Racing is using – it’s a heavily modified Genesis Coupe powered by a turbocharged 4 liter Nissan motor, a combination that is sure to produce quite a show of power. Sources say that the Nissan powerplant was chosen because of it’s penchant for power on short notice, but RMR will be switching back to the Lambda V6 once they sort out how to coax the same tire smoking power out of it. AMS Performance, the makers of the hellishly record smashing 1130AWHP 8.42@168.8MPH Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, and Ivan’s fire-breathing 850RWHP 240SX 9.0@162MPH have acquired their 2.0T Genesis Coupe and placed it in their monster garage. As of 3pm this afternoon we picked up our first Genesis 2.0T Track coupe. Our special projects technician Ivan Phipps just signed the paperwork. We drove it right to the shop and started our long but detailed analysis of what needs to be done.

1. The exhaust is pretty bottlenecked as we expected…big room for improvement there
2. There is CAVERNOUS room for an AMS Turbo kit so see that in the very near future
3. IC pipe and an intake should be able to be worked up very quickly
4. The tuners here are already on the case for re mapping the ECU
5. Looks to be a returnless fuel system so we will have to fix that.
6. Speed density for air metering so a vent to atmosphere BOV should work without a hitch on the car

Personally, the fact that the rear valence has two cutouts should mean that you should put on a dual exhaust, but I think this looks pretty decent. Tanabe has always put out great high-quality pieces in the past. Just can’t wait to see the Medallion Touring version of their exhaust! The car in the photo is a 2.0T model. Remember in this article when Edmunds said they couldn’t get the numbers they were hoping for in a 300HP RWD coupe? Well it turns out Hyundai didn’t think those numbers were right either, so they worked it out with Edmunds and found a few problems. Worn tires, a bad alignment, and an over-zealous ECU were to blame. With these issues fixed, Edmunds takes ther V6 coupe out to the track again, this time with much more promising numbers! Good thing is that Hyundai is already working with dealers to address the ECU problem, and reflashes are on the way to eleminate the 3 second shift delay. According to Edmunds, if you already bought your car, call up your Hyundai dealer and they will perform the reflash for free. Great news all around! Click here to see their retest! Hyundai was disappointed to. So they went through the car following our track session looking for answers. What Hyundai’s engineers found was a rear wheel alignment that was off spec and worn front tires paired with new rears.

One of the employees at AMS Performance have purchased a Genesis Coupe. The official word from AMS, as sourced here from Genesis Owners is that fabrication and production of a full line of parts will be done for the car. In case you didn’t know, AMS has built one of the fastest Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions in the world, and they intend to continue with the tradition with the new Lancer Evolution X. Since they have a very similar engine design, expect to see AMS Performance make big big power with the new Genesis Coupe!

This brings me to our latest project. Ivan one of our lead technicians is purchasing a Genesus coupe 2.0T. This year AMS will be working with the 2.0T and producing a full line of parts. We are confident in our ability to not only make power with the Genesis coupe but to make reliable and safe power. So in the coming months you can expect a lot more posts from Ivan, myself and our staff here at AMS as we strive to make the best products made for the Genesis coupe right here in the USA!
