<p>It&#8217;s out and people are taking notice! <a href="http://www.sdnn.com/?s=Dave+Stall" target="_blank">Dave Stall</a>, of the <a href="http://www.sdnn.com" target="_blank">San Diego News Network</a> had a chance to try out the Genesis Coupe, and he likes it! Like others he had reservations, Hyundai? Sports car? Well, they had a hit with the Genesis sedan, why not the Coupe?</p>

The tuner friendly entry level two door features 19 inch wheels housing beautiful Brembo brakes, a limited slip differential in the rear end and a boost friendly four cylinder that could easily make 250 HP at the wheels with a little motivation from the aftermarket. All for under $25,000. Try to get that with a BMW.</em></p>

Yes, everything feels good about this car. I know, I’m saying this about a Hyundai, the car company that once brought us the Excel.<br />

<p>Pedro Arrais of the Times Colonist recently shared his experience with his seat time in the 2.0T Genesis Coupe. He agrees it is certainly a nice RWD sporty coupe, and a long way for Hyundai to have come from it&#8217;s humble subcompact roots. However, he incorrectly claims that the Genesis Coupe is the replacement for the Tiburon. We know better, don&#8217;t we, as Hyundai has already said that their replacement for the Tiburon is coming, in a revised and smaller FWD chassis. Also of note is the reverse position of the gearbox &#8211; up and to the left. While not difficult to use, it is too close for comfort for many to 1st gear. No worries though, the car emits a sharp beep when you stick it in reverse, so you don&#8217;t mistake it for first gear. Audi and VW does the same thing, but to put it into reverse requires a push over and &#8220;down&#8221; to select that cog, preventing mishaps in the parking lot.</p>

<p>Denis Duquet of <a href="http://www.carguideweb.com" target="_blank">The Car Guide</a> has finally got a chance to sit in and review the new Genesis Coupe. Though nothing spectacular stands out about the car, that is a good thing because the car is solid a poised to give Hyundai and new image. I agree with Duquet, I don&#8217;t like the Hyundai logo at all, but it&#8217;s a minor quip in a car that provides solid sporty performance for around $22000. <p>CNET has taken their spin on the Genesis Coupe 2.0T and the 3.8L V6 and they have a pretty positive impresesion. They were able to take the car around the Mazda Raceway Leguna Seca and they had an absolute blast with the car. They did have a minor issue with the stability control program that was too sensitive. Apparently just driving on the rumble strip on the inside of a turn was enough to set it off and have the ECU cut power to the car. <p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>So the question is has Hyundai hit a homerun with the new Genesis Coupe 2.0T and 3.8? We&#8217;d say the Korean automaker has come quite close. The 2.0T feels a bit down on power, but its good handling and turbocharged engine will prove to be excellent starting points for the tuner crowd. Comparing it with the Honda Civic Si may not have been fair, but there really is no other cheap, rear-wheel drive coupe on the market to which the Genesis Coupe 2.0T can be stacked against.</em></p>

<p style="padding-left: 30px; "><em>To test this theory, I made a hard pipe to replace soft hose between the throttle body and the factory hard pipe. I installed a Tial Q BOV in the new pipe to supplement the factory BOV. With this installed, the delay getting back into power after a fast shift was nearly eliminated!</em></p>

<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>At this point, I had the Tial Q plumbed into the vacuum port on the intake manifold. Plumbed like this, you could hear the factory BOV and the Tial Q open at different times. The factory BOV opens first (when the ECU commands it) using vacuum from the vacuum reservoir and then you hear the Tial when the throttle finally closes and the manifold goes into vacuum. This again supports my theory.</em></p>

While definate details are not yet available &#8211; they do claim their kits will fit all medium frame ball bearing turbochargers, from the GT28R to the GT35R. If reports are as promising as their initial testings, 400whp with a GT30R turbocharger is very attainable, and should provide for a boatload of fun.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.beyondredline.com/" target="_blank">Beyond Redline</a> wastes no time at all &#8211; shortly after taking apart the engine to examine it, then taking apart the turbo to poke around, now they have bolted a new Garrett GT3076 turbo on with 600cc injectors and done a little tuning of the car with a AEM FIC. The end result is a blistering 344whp, though 400whp should be no problem for this turbocharger. Congratulations, we&#8217;re happy to see the progress on the Genesis Coupe 2.0T! <p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>Earlier this week we took apart the stock turbocharger assembly and in the process completely destroyed most of our stock fasteners. We ordered new hardware but while our stock turbo was at the machine shop having everything drilled out and and re-tapped we decideded to see what we had on the shelf. After all we couldn&#8217;t put development on hold for many of our new products. Low and behold we found a brand new GT3076 turbo! Although I can&#8217;t really explain how we mounted it yet (prototype products and I don&#8217;t want to say anything until we finalize design) lets just say once its done you will be as excited as we are. Another point to note, our prototype exhaust system is out being prepared for production, so this is through the stock cat-back exhaust system!</em></p>
