<p>In case you were wondering, this isn&#8217;t a specifically prepared car for the hill climb. In fact, it appears to be the car that Rhys Millen uses for drift competitions, powered by the turbocharged V6 powerplant.</p>

<p>More proof that the Genesis Coupe is looking great in the tuner crowd. Chris over at NERDFACE.net, currently driving a turbo tC, was interested in taking a look at the Genesis Coupe. So he went for a spin in a side street in the V6. Nice, great value for the money, but he didn&#8217;t have a chance to try the the &#8220;get up and GO&#8221; factor and compare it to the turbo tC he has, so the salesman asked him to come back and try it out on a, well, more &#8220;aggressive&#8221; test drive. A highway onranp and a generous salesman later, he&#8217;s having the ride of his life hearing that 3.8L V6 howl up to the redline hauling two buttes along in a sports car that couldn&#8217;t <em>possibly</em> be made by Hyundai&#8230;</p>

I have to say, given that I was able to find that 300hp. Holy cows. The power is definitely there after all. Also, the car is quite fun with the traction control OFF. Drifting onto the freeway entrance (with not a soul in sight, of course) was the highlight of the test drive.&#8221;</em></p>

The tuner friendly entry level two door features 19 inch wheels housing beautiful Brembo brakes, a limited slip differential in the rear end and a boost friendly four cylinder that could easily make 250 HP at the wheels with a little motivation from the aftermarket. All for under $25,000. Try to get that with a BMW.</em></p>

<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>In the 23 years since Hyundai first entered the U.S. market, the Korean automaker has come a long away. What began as a budget-oriented brand for those who couldn&#8217;t afford the higher-priced products from Japan has evolved into a credible contender in virtually every segment that it competes. In the early days, the primary emphasis was on affordable motoring, sometimes at the expense of long-term durability. Today, it&#8217;s a different story. From the Accent to the Genesis sedan, Hyundai still offers some of the most affordable products, but the decades-old connotations of &#8220;cheap&#8221; have been largely laid to rest.</em></p>

Over the weekend, the team ran the engine on the dyno and squeezed out 480 hp at 4,500 rpm and 570 lb-ft of torque at 3,800 rpm. They achieved those numbers with just 9 psi of boost from the turbo. The engine is now in the car and Millen will be competing with Hyundai power at Round 2 of the formula D championship at Road Atlanta this weekend.</em></p>
