Beyond Redline has brought the bar up again with the introduction of their prototype turbo kit for the 2.0T Genesis Coupe. While definate details are not yet available – they do claim their kits will fit all medium frame ball bearing turbochargers, from the GT28R to the GT35R. If reports are as promising as their initial testings, 400whp with a GT30R turbocharger is very attainable, and should provide for a boatload of fun.

One of the biggest questions on everybody’s minds may be, “How did they get this thing together so quickly?” We knew in order to show up and play ball in this game we had to come big and fast, or go home. We studied the service manuals and even ordered a long block long before we even secured our Coupe. We knew that not only did we want to be first to the plate with our offerings; we wanted to make sure our plans were going to work, be solid, and perform extremely well for your dollar. 

Beyond Redline wastes no time at all – shortly after taking apart the engine to examine it, then taking apart the turbo to poke around, now they have bolted a new Garrett GT3076 turbo on with 600cc injectors and done a little tuning of the car with a AEM FIC. The end result is a blistering 344whp, though 400whp should be no problem for this turbocharger. Congratulations, we’re happy to see the progress on the Genesis Coupe 2.0T! Earlier this week we took apart the stock turbocharger assembly and in the process completely destroyed most of our stock fasteners. We ordered new hardware but while our stock turbo was at the machine shop having everything drilled out and and re-tapped we decideded to see what we had on the shelf. After all we couldn’t put development on hold for many of our new products. Low and behold we found a brand new GT3076 turbo! Although I can’t really explain how we mounted it yet (prototype products and I don’t want to say anything until we finalize design) lets just say once its done you will be as excited as we are. Another point to note, our prototype exhaust system is out being prepared for production, so this is through the stock cat-back exhaust system!

Something as simple as cams…okay not so simple, but installing them in conjunction with an ECU flash has shown to provide a very healthy boost in power, around a 40hp increase at the wheels. It’s not peak horsepower either, it shows a rapidly increasing gap between 3500 RPM all the way to redline. See the thread here, or click on the dyno graph to see a bigger version!

Buschur Raching has their 2.0T Track in their hands now. It’s nice to see that big name tuners are getting into the Genesis Coupe with this kind of enthusiasm. As soon as they got the car, they posted up some nice pictures in this thread on GenesisForums, then moved onto the dyno and started testing boost controllers with a very mild gain before the computer started to complain and shut the car into limp mode. Next was onto the intake system where they already had a neat looking system with a carbon fiber heat shield, but then they moved onto more and ripped out the intercooler to take some measurements. When looking at the graph you will see that the max numbers achieved were only 7whp and 22ft. trq greater than stock but when you start to dissect the graph a bit more you start to see larger gains in there. Such as at 3100 on up to 3700 there were gains in there as much as 22whp and 33ft trq. 

I don’t know where this build orginated from (Sources say Autz in Korea, but I can’t find anything about them) but I’m seeing threads for it made on a bunch of websites like GenCoupe and LowMotion - what we have here is another member with the V6 model with an aftermarket turbo bolted on. This particular one has a rebuilt engine with forged internals to be able to make a very healthy 504PS (496HP) to the wheels. ECU reflahes have been out for the cars over in the Asian markets, but now that the cars have hit US soil it suddenly becomes more interesting. Attatched is a picture of a dyno tune that was done to a 2.0T Genesis Coupe that was otherwise stock. It showed a healthy gain of around 35PS, which for arguments sake is very close to 35HP at the wheels. It’s actually around 34.5HP, but lets keep it simple; the bottom line is that you can still see a healty increase from just a reflash. Source: GenCoupe, DTMSpeed

Finally some solid numbers on the 2.0T motor – Edmunds has dyno tested the little beauty and found that it makes very healthy numbers. Perhaps Hyundai is learning from it’s mistakes with the Tiburon? We tested a bone stock Genesis Coupe 2.0T on MD Automotive’s Dynojet chassis dyno located in Westminster, CA. Hyundai says its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder generates 210 hp and 223 lb-ft of torque at the flywheel, and like most factory ratings for turbo cars, those numbers are a bit on the conservative side.

I still think those two cars are in a different class, but they sure share a lot of the neat features though. Front engine, rear wheel drive, two door, great looks, fun to drive. However, one’s an expensive near luxo-coupe and the other is an inexpensive track ready sport coupe. There’s almost $20k separating the two if you look at the extremes. Still, the reviews pan out well for both. Look after the jump for a dyno graph too – where the Genesis has a flatter torque curve but the G37 edges it out in high-RPM run. And all of a sudden, the Korean carmaker — whose previous attempts at “sporty” included machines like the unenviable Scoupe and the forgettable first-generation Tiburon — has thrust itself into the spotlight with a car that at once looks good and has the specs to do the deed. Three hundred horsepower. Six-speed manual transmission. Rear-wheel drive. Limited-slip differential. So put that in your Scoupe pipe and smoke it. Here comes a real car.
