Taking the already potent Genesis Coupe a step further, they have developed a new RM460 Genesis Coupe, with a mid-mounted 4.6L Tau V8 powerplant. With over 500hp contained in the Genesis Coupe, RMR is hoping for a killer combination both on the track and on the street!

The Tau V8 engine replaces the original back seat and maintains most of its original architecture with upgrades to eight individual throttle bodies and a set of JE pistons that bumps the compression ratio to 11.0:1. An engine management system by AEM has been added to speak to the factory Engine Control Unit (ECU) while maintaining all factory dash and gauge cluster functions. A Mendeola five-speed sequential transmission has been mounted to the V8 and tuned for a maximum speed of 182 mph. Suspension will be maintained by the original MacPherson strut dual-link front suspension and a five-link rear suspension setup, and upgraded with a KW coilover component.

With an average wait time of 14 days, the Genesis Coupe is squarely planted in the top 10. Interesting is that nowhere else on the list are other more “premium” cars like the the Infiniti G37 – as the list is filtered with criteria such as sales volume and model continuity. Check out their list here!

For Movers, we only list vehicles that pass a certain threshold of sales in order to weed out limited editions, models that are being phased out, or other factors that might skew the numbers or otherwise inaccurately portray popularity. For the Top 10 Losers, we lower that threshold greatly because low sales bolster the Loser claim, though they could also indicate other factors, like a model being phased out.

AMS did a little hunting around the boost system of the Genesis Coupe in an attempt to see if the BOV is related to the rev-hang issue that people have been reporting. Ivan from AMS installed a prototype BOV system on their Genesis Coupe 2.0T and has posted up his findings, that the rev hang issues seem to be fixed by installing a custom BOV setup. More information here along with pictures!

[Source: AMS Performance via Genesis Owners Forums]

To test this theory, I made a hard pipe to replace soft hose between the throttle body and the factory hard pipe. I installed a Tial Q BOV in the new pipe to supplement the factory BOV. With this installed, the delay getting back into power after a fast shift was nearly eliminated!

At this point, I had the Tial Q plumbed into the vacuum port on the intake manifold. Plumbed like this, you could hear the factory BOV and the Tial Q open at different times. The factory BOV opens first (when the ECU commands it) using vacuum from the vacuum reservoir and then you hear the Tial when the throttle finally closes and the manifold goes into vacuum. This again supports my theory.

AMS Performance is wasting no time at all getting their hands dirty with their new 2.0T Genesis Coupe. Their latest development is a BPV block-off plate – since the BPV on the 2.0T is on the turbocharger itself, this place removes that BPV and allows for a BOV or BPV placed along the charge piping, a more traditional location and easiar to access. No word on pricing yet, but AMS products have always shown quality. Check out this thread for more information.

Just wanted to post up a little CAD shot of our new BOV block off plate that should be available very soon. This will enable you to remove the weak factory BOV on the turbine housing and block it off. Doing so will allow you to run a more traditional Blow off valve and get rid of the problem with the factory unit staying open in the event the ECU deems the boost is too high.

When new cars are introduced into the market, automakers will usually treat the journalists to an exclusive event. This event usually includes a presentation by the company, and then a private opportunity to drive the vehicles. Hyundai and their brilliant marketing reps have made the move to make the presentation part of the press event public and online, so every can tune in and see what Hyundai themselves have to say about the new Genesis Coupe. The event is scheduled to occur on Wednesday, March 25th at 11AM EDT on this website here – and we have submitted a question to their PR team in hopes they will address it at the event:

“How will Hyundai interact with the aftermarket parts and tuning community that is quickly forming around the Genesis Coupe?”

The Post and Courier, a Charleston, SC newspaper has written a small article about the Genesis Coupe. However, a little of their information is wrong, but the article doesn’t go much into depth about the car anyways. He also has a short interview with Paul Zarres, the general sales manager at Palmetto Hyundai. They state that the Hyundai Genesis uses a clutchless manual transmission with paddle shifters and that the Genesis Coupe is replacing the Tiburon. Just to make the facts right, the automatic transmission that is used in the Tiburon is the ZF 6HP26 which is a 6 speed automatic with a torque converter. Also, it has been stated over and over that the Genesis Coupe is not replacing the Tiburon. Click here to read the article!

In a recent afternoon test drive, the 3.8-liter Genesis coupe proved its need for speed. With comfortable leather seats, the wheel paddles and ample visibility, the coupe galloped between gears and rocketed along on major highways. The engine let loose a throaty rumble not that far removed from muscle car tones. For a sports car in disguise, though, the 306 hp model was steady in traffic and at slow speeds in general.
