Jason Harper from Bloomberg takes some time and shares his thoughts on the Genesis Coupe 3.8L V6. While I can’t say comparing it to a PDK equipped Porsche isn’t exactly fair, he does agree that the Genesis Coupe is a lot of fun for a hair over $30:

On a sun-flooded day in upstate New York, I took out a king-of-the-hill 3.8 Track model to see what the Koreans have wrought. Road-racing extras include a stiffer suspension, better-stopping Brembo brakes, a limited-slip differential, a rear spoiler and 19-inch alloy wheels fitted with summer performance tires.

Not as detailed as a full on review, but instead Car and Driver takes the Genesis Coupe out for a spin with the newly installed factory navigation system. Substantially different from the Genesis sedan; the Coupe’s navi is more touchscreen-focused and seems to do the job well.

The easy-to-use system features traffic rerouting, a turn-by-turn list, and a bright display with clear maps. It also accepts voice commands for navigation and radio control. One highlight is the function that displays the selected route along with a mileage breakdown by highway, toll road, and ferry. The nav is packaged with a 10-speaker Infinity sound system and features Bluetooth audio streaming as well as iPod, USB, and auxiliary inputs. It’s XM-capable and includes a 90-day trial that also provides real-time traffic info.

It’s out and people are taking notice! Dave Stall, of the San Diego News Network had a chance to try out the Genesis Coupe, and he likes it! Like others he had reservations, Hyundai? Sports car? Well, they had a hit with the Genesis sedan, why not the Coupe?

Hyundai has a lock on the market for inexpensive vehicles and it decided to make the leap to luxury. To my surprise, it worked and when it decided to roll out the Genesis Coupe I waited to see the finished product before I put my foot in my mouth.

Battle of the sixes: Who’d have guessed that the Camaro V-6′s most earnest competitor would hail from from Ulsan, Korea, and not Detroit?

TopSpeed’s Terence Keon recently had his chance to take a closer look and drive the Genesis Coupe 2.0T and V6 models. Later on in the article he even gets a chance to sit down and talk to Miles Johnson, Hyundai’s Product PR Manager who has a few words to share with the community. I love in the video when he goes “…It’s rear wheel drive, so if you want to drift this car, or hang your tail out, you can do that…so mash the gas pedal and have some fun when you’re out driving this car!”. Seriously, there is no other car on the market today that offers as much as a Genesis Coupe R-Spec. The tuner friendly entry level two door features 19 inch wheels housing beautiful Brembo brakes, a limited slip differential in the rear end and a boost friendly four cylinder that could easily make 250 HP at the wheels with a little motivation from the aftermarket. All for under $25,000. Try to get that with a BMW.

In the 23 years since Hyundai first entered the U.S. market, the Korean automaker has come a long away. What began as a budget-oriented brand for those who couldn’t afford the higher-priced products from Japan has evolved into a credible contender in virtually every segment that it competes. In the early days, the primary emphasis was on affordable motoring, sometimes at the expense of long-term durability. Today, it’s a different story. From the Accent to the Genesis sedan, Hyundai still offers some of the most affordable products, but the decades-old connotations of “cheap” have been largely laid to rest.

Out of the Laguna Seca’s paddock onto the pit lane that borders the racetrack’s longest straight, the Genesis Coupe’s intoxicating 3.8-litre V6 blats out a raucous note as I dip my right foot into the throttle. Yes, everything feels good about this car. I know, I’m saying this about a Hyundai, the car company that once brought us the Excel.

Pedro Arrais of the Times Colonist recently shared his experience with his seat time in the 2.0T Genesis Coupe. He agrees it is certainly a nice RWD sporty coupe, and a long way for Hyundai to have come from it’s humble subcompact roots. However, he incorrectly claims that the Genesis Coupe is the replacement for the Tiburon. We know better, don’t we, as Hyundai has already said that their replacement for the Tiburon is coming, in a revised and smaller FWD chassis. Also of note is the reverse position of the gearbox – up and to the left. While not difficult to use, it is too close for comfort for many to 1st gear. No worries though, the car emits a sharp beep when you stick it in reverse, so you don’t mistake it for first gear. Audi and VW does the same thing, but to put it into reverse requires a push over and “down” to select that cog, preventing mishaps in the parking lot.

One thing they did notice with full throttle shifts with the Genesis Coupe…was no, not the temporary power cut, but an odd squeak from the engine bay, like a squeaky belt. Today’s spoiler comes from South Korea, not Japan. The 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe, with rear drive and turbo-four or V-6 power, is about eight inches shorter than the Camaro, or half a foot shorter than the Mustang. Although it shares components with the Genesis sedan, it’s been designed specifically to be too small to take the sedan’s optional 4.6-liter Tau V-8 in its engine bay.
