On a sun-flooded day in upstate New York, I took out a king-of-the-hill 3.8 Track model to see what the Koreans have wrought.
More proof that the Genesis Coupe is looking great in the tuner crowd. Chris over at NERDFACE.net, currently driving a turbo tC, was interested in taking a look at the Genesis Coupe. So he went for a spin in a side street in the V6. Nice, great value for the money, but he didn’t have a chance to try the the “get up and GO” factor and compare it to the turbo tC he has, so the salesman asked him to come back and try it out on a, well, more “aggressive” test drive. A highway onranp and a generous salesman later, he’s having the ride of his life hearing that 3.8L V6 howl up to the redline hauling two buttes along in a sports car that couldn’t possibly be made by Hyundai…

[Source: NERDFACE.net]

“The salesman wasn’t shy about letting me jostle him around in the passenger seat. He gave me those 6 naughty words: “drive it like you stole it”. I have to say, given that I was able to find that 300hp. Holy cows. The power is definitely there after all. Also, the car is quite fun with the traction control OFF. Drifting onto the freeway entrance (with not a soul in sight, of course) was the highlight of the test drive.”

millenix over at the 8th Generation Civic forums has test drive the 2.0T Track edition of the Genesis Coupe in Tsukuba Red (Cheers to Hyundai for naming colors after tracks, I love it) – Overall he likes it, with some minor issues like the relative lack of power and an odd issue with the shift knob. Since when was 200-something HP in a cheap two door car underpowered? Maybe I’m still stuck in the 90′s but I’m sure tuners like Buschur Raching and AMS will be able to coax more power of of the powerplant. Read the full (short) review here!

[Source: 8th Generation Honda Civic Forums]

Interior: I liked the interior a lot, the 2 tone interior is more a maroon/black than a red/black like I thought originally. The dash looks well designed, and I liked the seats a lot… the seats are black leather bolsters with a maroon mesh/cloth material that seems to grab well. Proximity key with push button start is pretty cool, but I know a lot of cars have that now, including almost all Nissan models.

Hi all I had a chance to test drive a GC 2.0T Premium with the manual today! Now I currently own a 2001 Tib among other cars that I have turboed with an Alpine Developments kit and was comparing the new car to my car. First off I must say that I was impressed! Overall I really like the car and I can see myself buying one in the next few years. I will watch and wait to see what the potential of the 2.0T is. Also wait to see what bugs may arise being that this is a brand new car, and may have some minor things that Hyundai will update along the way as with any new car.

First impression was how enclosed I felt while sitting in the car; it literally felt as though there was just way too much car surrounding me. It was intimidating at first. Secondly, the clutch felt very sporty. It grabbed very very low. Starting off without a stall required decent gas and heavy modulation of the clutch (I never stalled it but later the salesman with me who was dying to get behind the wheel DID). Any accusations that the clutch doesn’t grab firmly enough or that it’s sloppy are those who don’t understand how to learn the workings of an unfamiliar clutch. It felt tight, grabbed very low. I can see this appearing to be sloppy if you didn’t adapt since releasing the clutch past this point would engage it much earlier than you would have anticipated (its at this point where the gas pedal needs to be modulated, not afterwords). I began driving the car slowly, trying to get a feel for the clutch and being careful not to ruin the car in what was now turning out to be a small snow storm LOL

mmarshall over at the ClubLexus forums has written about his thoughs over the Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track. Overall, a great car for the money, with an interior that could be improved, and with a great feel and sense of connectiveness on the road. He also very much likes the 6-speed auto, but hey enough of my non-sense. Click here for the full review.

As I mentioned above, not many Genesis Coupes are in stock right now. A Hyundai shop fairly close to my house had an automatic, silver/Black leather, 3.8 Track model ready to go, and offered a solo test-drive, without a salesman riding along, so I jumped at the chance (I knew a number of several CL members were waiting for a review).

Looks like a fellow Genesis Coupe enthusiast went to go test drive one in New Mexico, and was encouraged by the dealer to, er, drive quickly. He was pulled over by a cop, clocked at 87 in a 55 and was given the choice of paying the $200 fine or going to court. Otherwise, he, like many others were intoxicated by the croon of the v6; however he was not impressed with the quality of the interior. More details at VWvortex, here.

After those words were pronounced, suddenly, the inner gorilla that inhabits every car enthusiast took over my brain and my right foot. All of a sudden I was doing 90… 100… 110… 120. There was light traffic but still, what the heck was I thinking? Pure madness!! the sound of the engine and the exhaust at WOT was intoxicating. 15 mins later I see a brand new STI driving unusually slow on the far left lane. After slowing down and being right next to him for about 2 mins, I saw the open road again and started to accelerate just to be pulled over by a state trooper that was on the far right lane behind an 18-wheeler driving in the middle lane.

Crypto over at the Mitsubishi Evolution forums evolutionm has test-driven the 3.8L V6 Genesis Coupe. As it turns out, not everyone has glowing reviews of the coupe, but this was coming from probably a previous Evolution owner, and a current GTi owner, both of which are known for their knife-edge handling and impeccible performance both on the track and on the street. Click here to read the review in full.
First car I drove was the Genesis coupe. It was the 3.8 V6 model. 6speed manual transmission. RWD 306hp. First impressions from the outside was that it looks a lot nicer in person than on a computer screen. It’s aggressive, sporty looking, and a lot bigger than i thought it would be. Seeing it in person makes you realize this isn’t just a Tiburon with some extra kick. It’s significantly bigger.
