AMS Performance is wasting no time at all getting their hands dirty with their new 2.0T Genesis Coupe. Their latest development is a BPV block-off plate – since the BPV on the 2.0T is on the turbocharger itself, this place removes that BPV and allows for a BOV or BPV placed along the charge piping, a more traditional location and easiar to access. No word on pricing yet, but AMS products have always shown quality. Check out this thread for more information.

Just wanted to post up a little CAD shot of our new BOV block off plate that should be available very soon. This will enable you to remove the weak factory BOV on the turbine housing and block it off. Doing so will allow you to run a more traditional Blow off valve and get rid of the problem with the factory unit staying open in the event the ECU deems the boost is too high.

Eric Hsu has posted some relavent information about the 2.0T motor and the driveline of the Genesis Coupe. He recently spoke to Gary at Design Craft and picked up some very useful information to dispel the rumors around the car. Among the information – the coupe uses a gear type (helical) rear LSD, not a clutch type. He also mentions differences between the Mitsubishi 4B11 block and Hyundai’s Theta block. Remember, we made the mistake saying they were the same when in fact, they are not. Make sure to see the edits we made in our article here. To clarify, Hyundai designed the engine as a member of the World Engine Alliance. They then shared the design with other members Mitubishi and Chrysler, who modified the design to their applications. So while the designs are similar, they are not the same. Eric also points out the issue with the camshafts on our page here – that it is difficult to see if cams are identical just from photos. We agree, but we’re just posting what we see and read online. To see the rest of the information, including aftermarket turbo fittment, click here.

I have read here and there where people are claiming that the Mitsubishi and Hyundai versions of the 4B engines are nearly the same. So to clarify, here are some factual things I’ve learned from talking to Gary at Design Craft (who would probably be the leading Hyundai 4B11T expert at this point in time), Simon at Hyundai (who is a Hyundai test engineer and probably knows the most about the Genesis Coupe at this point in time), and Mo at Mitsubishi (who just knows a lot about both versions of the 4B11T and a certified car nut himself) about the Hyundai Genesis Coupe and it’s engines:

One of the employees at AMS Performance have purchased a Genesis Coupe. The official word from AMS, as sourced here from Genesis Owners is that fabrication and production of a full line of parts will be done for the car. In case you didn’t know, AMS has built one of the fastest Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions in the world, and they intend to continue with the tradition with the new Lancer Evolution X. Since they have a very similar engine design, expect to see AMS Performance make big big power with the new Genesis Coupe!

This brings me to our latest project. Ivan one of our lead technicians is purchasing a Genesus coupe 2.0T. This year AMS will be working with the 2.0T and producing a full line of parts. We are confident in our ability to not only make power with the Genesis coupe but to make reliable and safe power. So in the coming months you can expect a lot more posts from Ivan, myself and our staff here at AMS as we strive to make the best products made for the Genesis coupe right here in the USA!

Even before they are officially released in the US, some people are able to get some amazing access to the new 2.0T. This GenCoupe menberwas in Canada, and he was able to score a test drive in one of those new 2.0T turbo models, and he shares his thoughts. You can see his test-drive review here. No pictures on this one, sorry the pictures above is a random photo I had on my computer.

First impression was how enclosed I felt while sitting in the car; it literally felt as though there was just way too much car surrounding me. It was intimidating at first. Secondly, the clutch felt very sporty. It grabbed very very low. Starting off without a stall required decent gas and heavy modulation of the clutch (I never stalled it but later the salesman with me who was dying to get behind the wheel DID). Any accusations that the clutch doesn’t grab firmly enough or that it’s sloppy are those who don’t understand how to learn the workings of an unfamiliar clutch. It felt tight, grabbed very low. I can see this appearing to be sloppy if you didn’t adapt since releasing the clutch past this point would engage it much earlier than you would have anticipated (its at this point where the gas pedal needs to be modulated, not afterwords). I began driving the car slowly, trying to get a feel for the clutch and being careful not to ruin the car in what was now turning out to be a small snow storm LOL
