In case you’ve been living in a cave for the past few years, you’d know that the MazdaSpeed 3 has been one of the best bang-for-the-buck cars in a long time. Over 250 delicious turbocharged horsepower, a great suspension, and at a price that can’t be beat makes the MazdaSpeed 3 a true enthusiast’s car. When Mazda came out with the new improved 2010 ‘Speed 3, there was now a competitor on the block for the cheap and fun performance. The Genesis Coupe has taken the tuner market by storm, with it’s stout 2.0T, or the impressive 3.8L V6 at it’s disposal. However, to compete in raw power with the ‘Speed 3, we have to reach for the 3.8L V6. FWD vs RWD? Turbo 4 vs. V6? Hatchback vs. svelte coupe? Here are two cars that couldn’t be more different in appearance and layout. Hatchback vs. coupe. Front-wheel drive vs. rear-wheel drive. Turbocharged inline-4 vs. normally aspirated V6. And certainly both go about their missions with decidedly different packaging. At 103.9 inches, the Mazda’s wheelbase is more than 7 inches shorter than the Hyundai’s — no small difference when it comes to changing direction quickly.

In case you were wondering, this isn’t a specifically prepared car for the hill climb. In fact, it appears to be the car that Rhys Millen uses for drift competitions, powered by the turbocharged V6 powerplant.

TopSpeed’s Terence Keon recently had his chance to take a closer look and drive the Genesis Coupe 2.0T and V6 models. Later on in the article he even gets a chance to sit down and talk to Miles Johnson, Hyundai’s Product PR Manager who has a few words to share with the community. I love in the video when he goes “…It’s rear wheel drive, so if you want to drift this car, or hang your tail out, you can do that…so mash the gas pedal and have some fun when you’re out driving this car!”. Seriously, there is no other car on the market today that offers as much as a Genesis Coupe R-Spec. The tuner friendly entry level two door features 19 inch wheels housing beautiful Brembo brakes, a limited slip differential in the rear end and a boost friendly four cylinder that could easily make 250 HP at the wheels with a little motivation from the aftermarket. All for under $25,000. Try to get that with a BMW.

SeoulfulRacing has a handful of a Genesis coupe on display, this time a supercharged 3.8L V6 with 430RWHP. Thats more than most entry level sports cars! Combined with the excellent chassis, it should yield a boatload of fun on the road and on the track. They also hint that a kit may be available soon over in the states, so keep your eyes peeled! dynoed at 430rwhp using 0.5 bar (about 8psi) pulley.

Beyond Redline has brought the bar up again with the introduction of their prototype turbo kit for the 2.0T Genesis Coupe. While definate details are not yet available – they do claim their kits will fit all medium frame ball bearing turbochargers, from the GT28R to the GT35R. The internet is abuzz with information about the Genesis Coupe that Rhys Millen Racing is using – it’s a heavily modified Genesis Coupe powered by a turbocharged 4 liter Nissan motor, a combination that is sure to produce quite a show of power. Sources say that the Nissan powerplant was chosen because of it’s penchant for power on short notice, but RMR will be switching back to the Lambda V6 once they sort out how to coax the same tire smoking power out of it.
